Out on the moor above Dunblane, the Sheriffmuir Inn stands more or less alone on the road that crosses the ground where the 1715 Jacobite battle was fought. It’s a destination in itself — you go there on purpose — with food and a fire to come back to after a walk on the hill. Dunblane station is about 3.5km down the road to the west.
