Mugdock Country Park spreads over 270 hectares on the northern edge of Milngavie, a mix of woodland, loch, moor and the ruins of two castles. There’s a walled garden at its heart, waymarked trails all through it, and the West Highland Way threads along the eastern side, so plenty of walkers pass through on day one. Entry is free, though you pay for parking. Milngavie station is only a couple of hundred metres from one edge of the park.
