A steep grassy cone above Crianlarich, the highest of the Crianlarich hills and a stiff, unrelenting pull from the road

Ben More rises straight up from Glen Dochart near Crianlarich as a great steep cone of grass, and the usual way up is famously relentless — a near-continuous 1,000m climb from the roadside with barely a flat step. At 1,174m it’s a Munro, a Scottish hill over 3,000 feet, the county top of Stirling and the highest British mountain south of Strath Tay. It’s nearly always climbed with its twin, Stob Binnein, just across a high bealach (the Gaelic word for a saddle or pass), the two of them making a shapely pair from miles around. There’s no shelter on the climb and the summit is exposed, so save it for decent weather. Crianlarich is the handiest base, in the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs hills.
