Places to explore in AngleseyWales · North Wales

Across the Menai Strait from the mountains of Snowdonia, Anglesey is a low and fertile island — Môn mam Cymru, the mother of Wales, for the grain it once grew. Its coast, almost all of it a protected landscape, folds into sea-cliffs and coves at South Stack, where seabirds nest below the lighthouse, and the dunes and pines of Newborough run down to the tidal island of Ynys Llanddwyn. The island wears its history openly, from the Neolithic burial chamber of Bryn Celli Ddu to Edward I's unfinished masterpiece at Beaumaris Castle and the raw copper scars of Parys Mountain.
