Penmon Priory grew from a monastery said to have been founded by St Seiriol in the 6th century, and became an Augustinian house in the 13th. The church is still in use as a parish church, and keeps two carved stone crosses from around the 10th century inside. Nearby are St Seiriol’s holy well and a domed dovecote of about 1600, its walls lined with a thousand nesting boxes. It sits at the quiet eastern tip of Anglesey, a few miles beyond Beaumaris.
