Beaumaris is a Georgian coastal town on the Menai Strait, its pastel cottages and Victorian pier looking across to the mountains of Eryri. The great draw is the castle, begun in 1295 by Edward I’s master mason James of St George and never quite finished — now part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ye Olde Bulls Head Inn, a former coaching inn, still stands on the main street. Bangor station is about 6km away across the strait.
