Parys Mountain, just south of Amlwch, was the largest copper mine in Europe in the 1780s, and centuries of digging have left the ground streaked in ochre, orange and rust-red. A waymarked trail loops round the old workings — otherworldly enough that film crews use it. Free car park; Valley station is a long way off, roughly 19km south-west.
