Famous for the longest place name in Britain — 58 letters, spun up in the 19th century as a publicity stunt to draw travellers off the railway — the village is usually shortened to Llanfairpwll or Llanfair PG. The full name is spelled out along the station platform, which is still the photo stop. Just to the south lies the National Trust’s Plas Newydd, a mansion and gardens on the shore of the Menai Strait.
