Places to explore in CarmarthenshireWales · South West Wales
The Welsh-speaking heartland of the old kingdom of Deheubarth, Carmarthenshire is a county of soft green farmland, wooded river valleys and a long tidal coast. The Tywi winds through the middle past the native strongholds of Castell Dinefwr and the clifftop Carreg Cennen, one of the most dramatic castles in Wales. The Romans mined gold at Dolaucothi Gold Mines, the only known Roman gold workings in Britain. On the coast, Dylan Thomas wrote in the boathouse at Laugharne, and the sands run for miles at Pendine Sands and Cefn Sidan.
