Llansteffan looks out over the sandy mouth of the Tywi estuary from the west bank, with a ruined medieval castle on the green headland above the village. A wide beach opens up at low tide, backed by the wooded slope up to the castle, which Cadw keeps open and free to visit. Across the water lies Ferryside, once linked by a ferry. Dylan Thomas spent childhood summers in the country nearby.
