Newcastle Emlyn sits inside a tight loop of the River Teifi on the border with Ceredigion, its ruined castle standing on the neck of the meander. It was a Welsh-language market centre, and the first printing press in Wales is said to have been set up here in 1718. By local legend, the last dragon in Wales was slain on the castle bridge. The town makes a base for the Teifi and the salmon leap at nearby Cenarth.
