Cilgerran stands above a wooded gorge on the River Teifi, with a ruined 13th-century castle on a crag over the water and two great round towers still standing. The stretch of river below was long fished from coracles, and a coracle regatta is still held in summer. The old quarries alongside have become the Welsh Wildlife Centre’s Teifi Marshes reserve. It sits on Pembrokeshire’s northern border, close to Cardigan.
