Cwmdu
Open accessNational Trust land — free to wander
Cwmdu is a small hamlet in the Carmarthenshire hills a few miles from Llandeilo. Most of what you’ll see is one early 19th-century terrace, owned by the National Trust since 1991, which holds the Cwmdu Inn, the village shop and post office, and a couple of holiday cottages. Villagers have run the pub and shop themselves since 2000, and the inn keeps things simple: real ales, a real fire and no background music. Providence Baptist Chapel is a few steps from the pub. The shop keeps short morning hours, so check before you go if you’re after more than a pint.
