Places to explore in North AyrshireScotland · Southern Scotland

North Ayrshire reaches from the Firth of Clyde coast out to its islands, and Arran is the jewel among them. Often called Scotland in miniature, the island is split by the Highland Boundary Fault into rugged northern mountains and gentler southern farmland. Granite peaks crowd the north, Goatfell the highest among them, and the Arran Coastal Way circles the whole shore. The Bronze Age stone circles of Machrie Moor stand on the western moor. Brodick Castle looks out over its bay, the distillery village of Lochranza sits at the northern tip, and the retreat of Holy Isle shelters offshore.
