Downham runs downhill in a single stone street with St Leonard’s at the top, framing the classic view across to Pendle Hill. It’s the estate church of the Assheton family, whose monuments fill the interior; the west tower is fifteenth-century, the rest rebuilt in the early 1900s. The Assheton Arms is just below the churchyard. Clitheroe station is around 5km to the west.
