Church of St Peter and St Paul, Exton
The church of St Peter and St Paul sits in the parkland of Exton Hall, a little apart from the village. Simon Jenkins put it among England’s thousand best for its monuments — a run of marble tombs from the 16th to 18th centuries, among them a huge one carved by Grinling Gibbons for Viscount Campden, who had four wives and nineteen children, all named across it. The spire was struck by lightning in 1843 and rebuilt soon after. It’s an open church, just north of Exton village.
