A big Decorated church built largely of stone from nearby Clipsham, St Nicholas’ keeps a Norman south doorway carved with zigzag and a broach spire of the late 13th century rising close to a hundred feet. Most of the rest is 13th- and 14th-century work. It’s an open church, standing in Cottesmore north-east of Oakham, beside the old airfield.
