One of only four Rutland churches named in the Domesday Book, St Andrew’s has a core dating to around 1100, with possible late-Saxon work under the Victorian restoration — which makes it among the oldest churches in the county. It stands on the Hambleton peninsula, now almost ringed by Rutland Water. Grade II* listed; the Norman south doorway and the odd 12th-century font are the things to look for. Oakham station is about 4.5km west.
