Thatch and pale-stone lanes run down toward the great earth dam that holds Rutland Water back at Empingham’s edge. In 1470 the fields nearby saw the Battle of Losecoat Field, where Edward IV scattered a rebel army during the Wars of the Roses. The village church keeps a fine 13th-century tower and spire. Stamford station is about 8km to the east.
