Hambleton sits on a wooded peninsula almost surrounded by Rutland Water, reached by a causeway across the reservoir that drowned its lower neighbours in the 1970s. It is best known for Hambleton Hall, a country-house hotel built in 1881 as a hunting box, whose restaurant has held a Michelin star since 1982 — the longest unbroken run in Britain. Oakham station is about 5km to the west.
