Clipsham’s draw is the Yew Tree Avenue just outside the village, a former carriage drive lined with around 150 clipped yews. A head forester, Amos Alexander, began shaping them in 1870; the Forestry Commission took the avenue on in the 1950s, and it’s free to walk today. The village is also home to the Olive Branch, one of the region’s best-known dining pubs.
