Partrishow’s church, high in the Black Mountains, keeps one of the best medieval rood screens in Wales and a rare wall painting of Death — a skeleton with scythe and hourglass. It is dedicated to St Issui, a Celtic hermit, and was long a place of pilgrimage; it still feels a long way from anywhere. Abergavenny station lies about 9km to the south.
