Abergavenny is a market town where the Usk valley meets the Black Mountains, ringed by the hills of the Skirrid, Sugar Loaf and Blorenge. It styles itself the food capital of Wales, and the food festival that fills the town each September was started in 1999 by two local farmers hoping to rebuild confidence in British produce after the BSE crisis. The station is a short walk south-east of the centre.
