Llanwenarth is reckoned the oldest Baptist chapel in Wales, its congregation founded in 1652 and the present building dating from 1695. It stands above Govilon near Abergavenny, low and plain as the earliest Nonconformist chapels tend to be. Baptist worship here predates the great chapel-building era by well over a century, which is its real claim on a visit. Abergavenny station is about 4km east.
