Llanthony is barely more than a scatter of buildings deep in the Vale of Ewyas, gathered round the ruins of its Augustinian priory. The abbey church’s tall arches still stand against the hills, with a small hotel and a cellar bar built into the medieval range. The single-track valley road carries on north over Gospel Pass, the highest road pass in Wales.
