Pen Cerrig-calch
Open accesson open access land, where the right to roam applies
Pen Cerrig-calch rises to 702m above Crickhowell, and its Welsh name, “top of the limestone rock”, nails what makes it unusual: a band of pale Carboniferous limestone caps a summit that would otherwise be Old Red Sandstone like its neighbours. Mountain paths lead up from the town and the ridge, past old quarry scars, to a wide view over the Usk valley. Exposed on top, so pick a settled day.
