Just east of Oxford, Wheatley keeps two curiosities: a stone tower windmill of the 1780s, restored and opened on summer afternoons, and a rare pyramid-roofed village lock-up on the old high street, once used to hold drunks overnight. The village grew on quarrying the local stone that went into several Oxford colleges.
