Shotover House’s grounds are Grade I listed for their early Georgian design — laid out from 1714 for the scholar James Tyrrell, with an octagonal temple added by William Kent in the 1730s. It’s a private estate today, run by the Shotover Trust, and only opens to the public once a year, on Daffodil Day each March, when the gardens fill with spring bulbs and a small entry charge goes to local charities. A public footpath crosses the wider park year-round, linking Wheatley with Shotover Plain. For guaranteed access, the adjoining Shotover country park next door is open daily, free.
