Beatrix Havergal ran a School of Horticulture for Ladies here from the 1930s until 1971, and the walled ornamental gardens she built have carried on ever since. The best-known feature is a 200-foot herbaceous border, still planted much as she conceived it. Twenty acres in all, with a nursery, teashop and a walk down to the River Thame. Paid entry, and easiest reached by car a few miles east of Oxford.
