Substantial ruinsruined, but plenty survives above ground
Notley Abbey began as a 12th-century Augustinian house on the Thame near Long Crendon, and enough of it survived the Dissolution to be turned into a country house — most famously the home of Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh, who restored it in the 1940s. Today it is a private wedding and events venue, so there is no general public access: the abbey and its grounds can only be seen by guests of a booked event, not visitors turning up. Long Crendon, with its famous medieval courthouse, sits just to the north.
