Chalgrove’s church keeps one of the fullest medieval wall-painting cycles in the country, ranged along the chancel walls — scenes from the life and death of the Virgin, brought back to light in Victorian times after centuries under whitewash. Worth the detour if you like this sort of thing; it’s a fair way from a station, with Culham roughly 11km to the west. Normally open in daylight.
