Ewelme keeps a rare medieval trio built together in the 1430s by the Duke and Duchess of Suffolk: the church of St Mary, a brick almshouse round a cloistered courtyard, and a school still in daily use. A spring-fed brook runs down the street past old watercress beds. The almshouse courtyard and church are usually open to visitors, at the foot of the Chilterns.
