Alice de la Pole — granddaughter of Geoffrey Chaucer — lies here beneath an alabaster tomb, a duchess in effigy above and a carved cadaver in a shroud below. She and her husband built the church, school and brick almshouses together in the 1430s, and all three still stand as a group at Ewelme. The church is open to visitors; Cholsey station is about 8km to the south-west.
