Agatha Christie lived at Winterbrook House on the edge of Wallingford for more than forty years, and wrote many of her novels there. The town itself is a classic Thames market town: a long medieval bridge, a busy market square, and the grassy earthworks of a once-huge Norman castle, slighted after the Civil War and now a free public park. Cholsey station, on the London line, is about 3km south-west.
