Magdalen College has kept a herd of fallow deer in its park for centuries, grazing right behind the cloisters. Founded in 1458 by William Waynflete, the college has some of Oxford’s finest grounds — water walks along the Cherwell, a wildflower meadow, and Addison’s Walk, named for the essayist and former fellow Joseph Addison. On May Morning, choristers sing from the top of Magdalen Tower at dawn, a tradition centuries old. Open most of the year, ticketed, with last entry around dusk.
