New College’s gardens sit inside a working stretch of Oxford’s medieval city wall, with a grass mound raised as a viewing point not long after the college’s founding in 1379. Cloisters, chapel, hall and gardens are open to visitors on ticketed afternoon visits year-round, though staircases and study areas stay off-limits — this remains a working college. Carfax Tower and Oxford Castle are both a short walk away, and the Thames Path isn’t far either.
