A motte-and-bailey castle once stood here — today it survives as earthworks in Derbyshire. It is one of four motte-and-bailey castles the Albion Guide lists in the county. The surrounding countryside is part of the Peak District National Park. For arrivals by rail, Grindleford Station is 10.4 km to the north.
