Lathkill Dale is one of the quieter limestone dales, a national nature reserve where the river rises straight out of cave mouths in the valley floor and runs clear over its bed. The remains of 18th- and 19th-century lead workings lie among the trees along the way. It’s open access walking, richest in wildflowers in early summer, and can be picked up from Over Haddon or Monyash at either end.
