Flying Childers Inn
Local highlightFour 18th-century cottages knocked into one, the Flying Childers takes its name from a famous racehorse of the Dukes of Devonshire and has stayed defiantly unspoilt: two small rooms with real fires, changing local ales, and simple homemade soups and snacks at lunchtime. Landlords Martin and Nicola Hill keep it a pub for walkers and locals alike. It sits well within a moorland circuit to the Nine Ladies Stone Circle on Stanton Moor, a short stroll south-east.
