Iconic viaduct viewpoint over the Wye valley.
Monsal Head looks down over one of the Peak District’s set-piece views: the River Wye winding through a wooded gorge, crossed by the five-arch Headstone Viaduct built in 1863. Ruskin loathed the railway for spoiling the dale, but the line closed long ago and now carries walkers and cyclists on the Monsal Trail, with the viaduct a listed structure. There’s a car park, pub and cafe at the top, and a path down to the river.
