Chee Dale
Local highlightApproximate location — this spot is pinned to the nearest village, so the exact point may be a little way off.
Chee Dale is one of the tightest dales in the Peak, where the Wye forces its way between limestone cliffs south-east of Buxton. At two points the bank runs out and you cross on stepping stones set below overhanging crags — fine in normal conditions, but the river can flood them after heavy rain. The dale links to the Monsal Trail above, and its walls are a long-standing draw for climbers. Open access throughout.
