A gloriously unreconstructed flagstoned alehouse out at Wardlow Mires, with one of the country’s few interiors listed by CAMRA as nationally important. It opens weekends and Thursday and Friday evenings only, the potters who run it fire their own stoneware, and lurchers doze by the fire. No lager, no frills; that’s the point. It’s remote moorland country, so time your visit to the limited hours.
