Stoney Middleton is packed into a narrow limestone dale on the road down to the Derwent. Its curiosity is the church of St Martin, whose 18th-century nave is octagonal — an unusual shape for an English parish church. The village also lays claim to a Grade II listed fish and chip shop. Grindleford station is about 4km to the north-east.
