The parish church at Tideswell is so large and finely built that it goes by the name Cathedral of the Peak — a 14th-century church raised on the wealth of medieval wool and lead. The village around St John the Baptist is a sizeable upland settlement, high on the limestone plateau, with shops and pubs enough to make it a good walking base.
