Chelmorton claims to be the highest village in Derbyshire, strung out along a single lane at around 1,200 feet, and the Church Inn sits at the top of it beside St John the Baptist. A spring that rises on the hill above still runs down past the pub in stone troughs. Once the village smithy, it’s now a friendly local doing home-cooked food. Buxton and its station lie about seven kilometres to the north-west.
