Georgian spa town with a grand Crescent.
Buxton is England’s highest market town, an elegant spa built on a warm mineral spring that still fills St Ann’s Well. The grand Crescent, modelled on Bath, curves below the domed Opera House, which Frank Matcham designed and opened in 1903 and which now anchors the town’s summer festival. Poole’s Cavern runs under the wooded hill above. The station is a short walk from the centre.
