Chapel-en-le-Frith is a small market town long nicknamed the ‘Capital of the Peak’ for its position among the hills. The cobbled market place keeps its old cross and a set of stocks beside the parish church, which was founded by foresters of the Royal Forest of the Peak in the 13th century. It makes a workaday base between Buxton and the High Peak.
