Goyt Valley
Local highlightApproximate location — this spot is pinned to the nearest village, so the exact point may be a little way off.
The Goyt Valley runs down through moorland and conifer west of Buxton, its river dammed into the Errwood and Fernilee reservoirs. Above the water stand the ruins of Errwood Hall, a Victorian mansion pulled down in the 1930s when the reservoirs were built; the rhododendrons the family planted still flower each June. Paths climb from the valley up to Shining Tor, the highest point in Cheshire. It’s reached by road from Whaley Bridge or Buxton.
