Serrated reef-limestone ridge, a striking silhouette.
Chrome Hill is a limestone reef knoll in the upper Dove valley, a fossil coral reef laid down some 340 million years ago and later scoured clean of its softer surrounding rock by ice. The serrated crest gives it its nickname, the Dragon’s Back. It’s open access, usually walked as a circuit with neighbouring Parkhouse Hill; the paths are steep and unfenced. The moorland hamlet of Hollinsclough sits just beneath the ridge.
