On the edge of Buxton, Poole’s Cavern is a limestone show cave hollowed out over roughly two million years, with a chamber where the young River Wye rises. It’s known for rare ‘poached-egg’ stalactites, stained orange and white by minerals washing down from old lime kilns above. Lit walkways run through it on guided visits, and Buxton station is about 1.5km away.
